Deus Ex Machina
Deus Ex Machina
Dex Ex Machina is traditionally rendered in acrylic ink on illustration board using a mix of airbrush and paint brush. The final painting is based on digitally rendered perspective mockups done in 3D Studio.
Jeff – Pre-rendering some of the elements in this illustration helped me control the lighting in the final work and gave me a very accurate reference for the environment reflected in surfaces in the mechanical insect’s body. I do work like this on occasion to explore the process of the illustration and learn new techniques that I can apply to future work. I had time on this particular artwork to do two full illustrations. The second illustration (seen here) was finished in half the time, and was technically superior to the first.
